Glasgow has more public swimming pools than any other city in Scotland, with Glasgow Life operating 11 pools across the city under the Glasgow Club brand — plus two of the oldest and most remarkable private swimming clubs in the world. From the 50-metre Olympic pool at Tollcross to the Victorian-era Western Baths and Arlington clubs, the range of swimming facilities across the city caters to lane swimmers, families, casual swimmers and fitness members alike. This guide covers the main public pools, their addresses, opening hours and prices, alongside Glasgow’s historic private clubs and the best alternatives outside the city-council network.

  • Glasgow Club (Glasgow Life) runs 11 public pools across the city — pay-as-you-go swimming costs £5.50 for adults and £2.75 for juniors and concessions per session.
  • Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Wellshot Road is Glasgow’s flagship 50-metre Olympic pool; it underwent a full re-tiling in 2024 and opens Mon–Fri 6am–10pm.
  • Western Baths Club (founded 1876) and Arlington Baths Club (founded 1871 — the oldest member-run pool in the world) are Glasgow’s two historic Victorian private clubs, both Category A listed.
  • Glasgow Club Springburn is closed for refurbishment and due to reopen 31 August 2026; members can use other Glasgow Club pools during the closure.

Glasgow Life — the city’s arms-length cultural and leisure trust — runs the Glasgow Club network of public leisure centres. Across Glasgow, 11 Glasgow Club venues offer public swimming, with the option to pay per session or join as a member. The standard pay-as-you-go swim price is £5.50 for adults and £2.75 for juniors (under 18) and concessions. Members with a Glasgow Club membership get unlimited swimming included as part of their plan. Swimming lessons are available at £32–£36 per month on a direct debit plan, or as block bookings of 10 lessons for £90–£100.

Tollcross International Swimming Centre

Tollcross International Swimming Centre, at 350 Wellshot Rd in the East End, is Glasgow’s premier aquatic facility and the city’s only 50-metre Olympic-length pool. The centre opened in 1997 and has hosted major national and international competitions. In 2024 the main pool underwent a full re-tiling and filtration system refurbishment — the most significant maintenance work since opening. The teaching pool closed in January 2025 for additional refurbishment; swimmers should check the Glasgow Club app for current pool availability during this period.

Facilities at Tollcross include the 50m main pool, a gym, sports halls, a café open 9am–4pm daily, baby changing, and accessible facilities including a hearing loop. Opening hours: Monday to Friday 6am–10pm, Saturday 8am–6pm, Sunday 8am–8pm. The centre is reachable by bus from Glasgow city centre and has on-site parking.

Glasgow Club Gorbals, North Woodside and Scotstoun

Glasgow Club Gorbals, at 275 Ballater St near the city centre, offers a 25-metre main pool and a separate leisure pool, making it one of the most versatile public venues in the network. It is a modern facility with a state-of-the-art gym, fitness studios, indoor tennis courts, and a café. Opening hours vary: Monday and Wednesday–Friday 7am–10pm, Tuesday 10am–10pm, Saturday 10am–6pm, Sunday 7am–8pm.

Glasgow Club North Woodside, at 10 Braid Square in the West End, is the oldest public swimming pool in Glasgow — a lovingly restored Victorian facility with a pool, gym and aquafit classes. Opening hours are more restricted than other Glasgow Club pools: Monday and Thursday 3pm–9pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10am–4pm, Saturday 9am–6pm. Glasgow Club Scotstoun, at 72 Danes Dr, offers one of the widest opening windows in the network — Monday to Friday 6am–10pm, Saturday 8:30am–6:30pm, Sunday 8:30am–8pm — and is a good alternative for those in the west of the city.

Glasgow Club Easterhouse, Pollok and Springburn

Glasgow Club Easterhouse, at 1000 Westerhouse Rd, features a 20-metre main pool and a separate teaching pool, plus river rapids, water slides, a sauna and steam room — making it a strong choice for families. Opening hours are split: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am–2:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 2:15pm–8pm.

Glasgow Club Pollok, at 27 Cowglen Rd, has a distinctive beach-entry leisure pool — a shallow entry point that slopes gradually into the pool, suitable for young children and less confident swimmers. Hours are Monday and Tuesday 2pm–8pm, Wednesday to Friday 10am–4pm. Glasgow Club Maryhill (34 Gairbraid Ave) and Glasgow Club Castlemilk and Drumchapel extend the network further across the city, with Saturday opening added across five venues from early 2026 as part of Glasgow Life’s extended hours initiative.

Glasgow Club Springburn (Kay Street, G21 1JY) is currently closed for a full pool refurbishment — upgrades include new tiling, filtration, changing facilities, boiler and air handling systems — with a scheduled reopening of 31 August 2026. The gym and fitness classes remain open during the closure; members are able to swim at other Glasgow Club venues in the interim.

Alongside the public Glasgow Club network, Glasgow is home to two of the most historically significant private swimming clubs in the UK — both Victorian, both Category A listed, and both with waiting lists for membership. There are also several well-equipped private and leisure club pools serving different parts of the city and its suburbs.

Western Baths Club

The Western Baths Club, at 12 Cranworth Street in Hillhead, was founded in 1876 and designed by architects Clarke & Bell. It is a Category A listed building and one of only three remaining Victorian Turkish baths in Scotland. In 2026 the club celebrates its 150th anniversary. The Victorian pool features original trapezes and travelling rings suspended over the water, a Roman plunge pool, and a Turkish and Russian baths suite. The adjacent Deepend Bar & Bistro serves members after swims.

The Western Baths is a private members’ club with over 2,600 members and a significant waiting list — the next intake of new members is scheduled for May 2028. Contact the club at [email protected] for waiting list enquiries. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 6am–10pm, Saturday and Sunday 7am–7pm.

Arlington Baths Club

Arlington Baths Club, at 61 Arlington Street in the West End, opened on 1 August 1871 — making it the oldest member-run swimming pool in the world. Founded by Glasgow businessmen as a members-only facility, it expanded to incorporate a Turkish baths in 1875. The club’s 21-metre skylit pool (described as a swimming pond) remains the centrepiece, alongside a modern sports hall, gym, steam room, and the original Victorian Turkish baths. The Arlington has approximately 1,300 members, all with equal voting rights in the member-run, not-for-profit club. Opening hours: Monday to Friday 6:30am–9:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am–9:30pm.

Allander, Eastwood Park and Private Leisure Clubs

Outside the city boundary but serving Glasgow’s suburbs, Allander Leisure Centre (Milngavie Rd, Bearsden) offers one of the most comprehensive pool facilities in the area: a 25-metre main pool, a 20-metre training pool, and a hydrotherapy pool heated to 34°C with an adjustable floor for rehabilitation use. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 6:30am–9:30pm, Friday 6:30am–9pm, Saturday 8am–4:30pm, Sunday 8am–8:30pm.

Eastwood Park Leisure (Rouken Glen Rd, Giffnock) offers a 25-metre pool alongside a teaching pool, bubble pool and splash pools, with no pre-booking required for recreational swimming — a useful option for spontaneous visits. David Lloyd Glasgow (242 Netherton Rd, Anniesland) is the main private health club option, with a 25-metre indoor pool and a 20-metre outdoor pool, plus sauna, steam room, whirlpool and crèche — though membership is significantly more expensive than Glasgow Club. Village Gym Glasgow (7 Festival Gate) offers a 20-metre heated indoor pool with dedicated lanes, aqua aerobics, sauna and a Starbucks café, open Monday to Friday 5am–11pm and weekends 6am–10pm.
