Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Indonesian police have confirmed the arrest of a man suspected to be involved in a shooting of a Chinese citizen and a security guard at a bar in Bali last week.
The Badung Police's acting information bureau chief, First Adjunct Inspector Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, on Sunday (July 19) stated the man, an Indonesian national identified with his initial H, was arrested on Saturday evening (July 18) at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang Province.
"The suspect was arrested by a joint team from the Bali Police, Badung Police, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Police, and the airport immigration," Inastuti said.
The suspect has been brought back to the Badung Police office for questioning. The police then will determine the motive, the origin of the firearms used during the incident, and the possibility of the involvement of other parties.
Inastuti said the incident occurred at The Shady Pig bar in the popular tourism area of Canggu in Badung District on early Friday (July 17) at 2:50 a.m. local time.
The two victims in the incident were a security officer identified with initials IMYM, aged 32, from Denpasar, and a Chinese national identified with initials EA, aged 25.
The incident began when the suspect became involved in a physical altercation with the Chinese tourist. As IMYM, the security officer, attempted to intervene and break up the fight, the suspect H suddenly grabbed his firearm and discharged it in the direction of the victims.
The projectile struck IMYM in the leg before penetrating through and hitting H, who was standing behind the security officer, in the thigh.
After the incident, the police conducted a crime scene investigation, where they obtained several pieces of evidence, including the victim's clothing, shoes, and socks, blood-stained fabrics, and a copper-colored projectile suspected to be discharged during the shooting.
The police also examined security camera records at the crime scene, gathered witnesses' testimonies, and sent the two victims to the hospital for medical examination for investigation purposes.
